Vinyl Explained

Microscopic Stylus & Groove Physics · By Frieve-A

VINYL EXPLAINED is a microscopic physics simulation of a stylus riding the groove of a vinyl record. Drag to orbit, zoom to thirty times magnification, and watch contact force, indentation, friction, and tracking error update live as the needle follows the modulated groove at one three-thousandth of real speed.

Bit rulers compare the groove's dimensions to digital audio resolution, down to the scale of PVC molecular chains. Adjust the signal, the record speed, the groove radius, and the roughness to see exactly what analog playback is made of.
